The Social Makeup of Social Media: Income Breakdown
Source: http://blog.compete.com/2012/12/20/the-social-makeup-of-social-media-income-breakdown/
Out of sheer curiosity, we here at Compete used our demographic data to craft a mini-infographic showing the income breakdown across 6 of the top social sites. The US Browser Population is lined beneath each data-set for further comparison and context.
Of these properties, LinkedIn shows the most notable emphasis towards a specific demographic, individuals earning 60k and above. Pinterest shows a slightly higher representation among higher income demographics and Tumblr shows the same slight skew towards less affluent demographics.
Facebook and Google+ show even representation between all demographics, probably a result of how pervasive they are across the social-scape.

In Case You Needed More Proof Android Is Walloping iOS (AAPL, GOOG, RIMM)
Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/comscore-mobile-subscriber-market-share-2011-12
ComScore’s three-month report on mobile subscribers (ending in November) is out.
The results: Samsung is the number one phone manufacturer in the U.S. and Android is still the top mobile OS.
Apple did see its smartphone market share grow a bit, from 27.3% to 28.7% in the last three months. But Google’s Android platform is still crushing it with 46.9% of the smartphone market in the U.S.
RIM’s BlackBerry OS continues to flail, dropping to 16.6% of the market from 19.7% three months ago. Windows Phone is treading water with about 5% of the market.
Here’s the chart:
When it comes to hardware manufacturers, Samsung now has more than a quarter of the market in all mobile phones, including non-smartphones. Apple made a nice jump in the last three months, with the iPhone now accounting for 11.2% of the mobile phones in the U.S.
Here’s the manufacturer breakdown:

Here’s Who Owns Facebook
Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-facebook-ownership-2011-12
There’s only one reason Facebook is going to IPO: To make its employees and investors rich. Otherwise, Mark Zuckerberg would (somewhat ironically) keep the company private forever.
Who’s getting rich when the company does IPO? Using information leaked to Ryan Tate at Gawker, we have a breakdown here. Assuming Facebook can get that $100 billion valuation being floated in the press, here’s who would be worth what.

Groupon’s Future Is Groupon Now
Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-groupon-now-2011-10
Groupon Now is a mobile app that shows users all the deals surrounding them on a map.
Because it allows Groupon to offer more deals than one per day, Groupon Now is the future of Groupon’s business.
As Groupon’s margins compress, Groupon Now is supposed to save the company by bringing in a huge volume of sales.
Also, because the deals are offered in “real-time” Groupon Now is an important part of Groupon’s plan to become a “yield management platform for small businesses” – as one source recently described the vision to us.
Unfortunately, according to Yipit, Groupon Now isn’t growing very fast.
Go read Yipit’s whole, careful breakdown of Groupon Now’s slowing growth for more >>

The iPad Costs Apple As Little As $229.35 to Build
The $500 16GB, Wi-Fi only iPad costs Apple less than half that to build, according to a recent component breakdown from iSuppli. And for the 64GB 3G iPad, Apple clears nearly $500 in profit. Here’s how it breaks down:
Apple iPad Estimated Bill-of-Materials and Manufacturing Cost Analysis:
This will no doubt be updated once iSuppli and others are able to do a teardown of an actual device, but those estimated profit margins are pretty stunning, particularly on the higher-end models. iSuppli also points out that the 32GB versions of the iPad only cost $30 more to make than their 16GB counterparts, yet retail for $100 more—a good indication that that’s where they expect the sweet spot to be in the market.
Goes a long way to explaining why Apple’s so willing to be flexible on the price, no?[iSuppli]
