How The iPad Kicks Kindle’s Butt When It Comes To Ad Traffic (AAPL, AMZN)

Amazon just kicked off a new TV campaign for the Kindle Fire, which it doubtless hopes will further dent sales of Apple’s iPad. But Kindle has a long way to go before it starts threatening the iPad as a device for serving online ads to consumers.

Data from Rimm-Kaufmann Group, an online marketing agency, show that the iPad maintains its total dominance of the tablet market when it comes to ad traffic. Kindle is slowly making progress, but it only has 3.48 percent of the market to iPad’s 88.1 percent.

iPad had a 93.44 percent share of the market late last year, so share is being traded quickly in this category.

With iPad 3 on the way, even those small gains for Kindle may be in jeopardy.

When it comes to ad performance, the iPad also has a significant edge. If you index the data to the average ad displayed on a desktop computer, ads on iPad get 10 percent more revenue per click, the same level of overall clicks, and a greater average order value.

All the other tablets, including Kindle, perform much worse than ads displayed on PCs.

iPad dominates ad traffic on tablets, but its dominance is slipping.

The Kindle is gaining share of ad traffic the fastest against the iPad.

But the iPad is still the most effective tablet device by far, for advertisers.

GameChanger Turns Your iPad into a Closet’s Worth of Board Games [Video]

Source: http://gizmodo.com/5855547/gamechanger-turns-your-ipad-into-a-closets-worth-of-board-games/gallery/1

You can tweak the rules to keep it interesting, but that copy of Monopoly sitting in your closet is always going to be Monopoly. The GameChanger, however, incorporates swappable skins and an iPad running accompanying apps so every game night it can be something completely different.

Instead of just using the iPad as a source for quiz questions or flashy animations, the GameChanger board actually serves as an iPad dock, allowing it to interact with the four included game pieces as they make their way around the board. Out of the box it includes two skins, The Magic School Bus and AnimalMania, with free downloadable apps that provide instructions, trivia, a virtual wheel and even automatic score keeping. But replay value isn’t its only advantage. The use of the iPad also eliminates the need for stacks of cards, dice, hotels, tiles and other accessories that can get bumped or even go missing, rendering a traditional board game unplayable. GameChanger’s available now for $80, while additional skins are promised to be released sometime in November. [GameChanger via Engadget]

Groupon Deal Strands Customers In Vegas [Social Networks]

Source: http://gizmodo.com/5844103/groupon-deal-strands-customers-in-las-vegas

Groupon Deal Strands Customers In VegasSeveral Internet bargain hunters wanting to visit Vegas on the cheap found out the hard way that some deals are just too good to be true.

Several Groupon and Voice Daily Deals Users users bought round-trip bus tickets from Southern California to Las Vegas for $45. The price was great, but the trip was a mini disaster due to the negligence of LUX Ground Transportation, the bus company that provided the deal.

The problems started right at the beginning with many buses arriving hours later than scheduled or, sometimes, not showing up at all. When the buses did arrive, they brought their passengers safely to Las Vegas, but never returned to bring them home. Oops.

All’s well that ends well, though. A shuttle from another company was called in to rescue these abandoned passengers. And Groupon eventually canceled the deal and refunded customer’s money. LUX didn’t fare as well. It appears the company was operating without a business license and has shuttered its doors now that the world’s eyes are upon it. [MSNBC]

HP Mini 311 RAM can be upgraded

hp mini 311 ram upgrade

The HP Mini 311 (or Compaq Mini 311C in Europe) comes with 1GB of RAM soldered to the motherboard. At first glance, that might make this NVIDIA ION-powered laptop a bit less attractive, since it somewhat limits your upgrade options. But Blogeee reports there’s good news: There is another RAM slot that users can take advantage of to upgrade the RAM.

All you have to do is pop open the back and slide in a 2GB module to upgrade the memory to 3GB.
