We had over 2,000 responses to this survey, and all of the charts are interesting. However, this is one we want to highlight.
As you can see, after just three years, the iPad is becoming the primary computer for users. When we first ran the survey, only 29.1% of people said it was a primary computer. Today, it’s 46.7% of users.
In the last three years, the iPad has gotten lighter and more powerful. Additionally, developers have built a variety of applications to make it more useful. Imagine what’s going to happen in the next three years.

Ladies, is that expensive Prada purse as popular as you think?
This infographic from the Digital Luxury Group shows the world’s most popular luxury handbags, based on 130 million internet searches.
Last week, The Daily reported that Kanye West‘s charity spent more than a half-million dollars in 2010—but none of that money went to actual charitable causes.
After analyzing federal tax filings, the iPad newspaper found that in 2010, the Kanye West Foundation had expenditures totaling $572,383, but the majority of that went to employee salaries and other overhead expenses.
The charity didn’t even donate a single cent to an actual charity that year. And now, West’s foundation is in the process of being dissolved.
Since it’s easy to get bogged down in the numbers, Statista took The Daily’s findings and compiled information from the foundation’s tax filings to create the below infographic explaining where Kanye West’s money went and what happened to his so-called charity foundation. Complete with West’s stunner shades, obviously.

If you want to get a sense of how popular Jeremy Lin has become in just a few days, check out this chart that measures the popularity of search terms on the internet.
In the last few days, Lin has surpassed even Tim Tebow in terms of internet popularity. And while it is the off-season for Tebow, consider that he made all the media rounds last week at the Super Bowl. And also notice that as Lin’s popularity is growing, Tebow’s numbers also peaked momentarily. This is likely due to comparisons between the two underdog athletes…
In 2011, manufacturers shipped 487.7 million smartphones and only 414.6 million computers—that’s desktops, laptops and tablets. Combined. We’d heard prophecy of this day, and now it may have arrived.
The study by Canalys has troves of data about global smartphone sales, which seem to lend credence to the theory that smartphones are becoming the main computing devices of the masses. Creation and productivity tasks aside, the vast majority of what we need to do or obtain from the internet can be accomplished on a $100 device that fits in our hand. And they’re becoming near-ubiquitous.
It’s an old cliché in politics to “follow the money.” Unfortunately, it’s almost always true when it comes to the support of controversial bills. In fact, all you need is $100k per senator to buy support for PIPA, the Senates version of SOPA.
It’s a small price to pay for controlling how the Internet works in the United States. If you’re still unsure what exactly SOPA is, check out our comprehensive article on the bill. Above are the senators that received in excess in $100,000 in campaign contributions from the Movie, Music, and TV industry. Oh hey, they all support PIPA. These numbers were compiled by ProPubilca.
If you live in the states governed by these public servants, be sure to give them a call and tell them that SOPA/PIPA will destroy the Internet. Mat’s right, we really do need an Internet Lobbyist. [ProPublica]
