Amazon adds ‘hundreds’ of Paramount movies to Prime, signals a Clear and Present Danger to free time
Source: http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/23/amazon-adds-hundreds-of-paramount-movies-to-prime/
Amazon is keeping its pace of expanding Amazon Prime’s video collection every few months, and today it’s Paramount’s turn to swell the ranks. Instant Video is getting ‘hundreds’ of Paramount’s movies, including both relatively recent movies like Nacho Libre and Mission: Impossible III as well as back catalog titles like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Clear and Present Danger. As always, the movies are watchable anywhere you’ve got broadband, and they don’t add a premium to the $79 yearly Prime subscription. Just be prepared to explain why you’re watching Urban Cowboy on your Kindle Fire at the airport.

NetZero launches ’4G’ wireless service, we go hands-on
Source: http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/19/netzero-launches-4g-wireless-service-we-go-hands-on/
Remember NetZero? Today the company announced that it’s launching NetZero 4G Mobile Broadband, a wireless service rolling out in 80 US cities and offering value-priced monthly data plans without activation fees, contracts, commitments or overage charges. Customers can chose between two levels of service — Lightspeed (up to 1Mbps down / 384Kbps up) to conserve data and Warpspeed (up to 10Mbps down / 1.5Mbps up) for maximum performance — and can switch back and forth by simply logging into NetZero’s website (this can take up to 15 minutes). Five monthly data plans are available:
- Free, $0, 200MB (limited to Lightspeed and limited to one year)
- Basic, $9.95, 500MB (limited to Lightspeed)
- Plus, $19.95, 1GB
- Pro, $34.95, 2GB
- Platinum, $49.95, 4GB
Two devices are offered — the NetZero 4G Stick ($49.95 + shipping) is a Windows and OS X-compatible USB modem and the NetZero 4G Hotspot ($99.95 + shipping) is an eight device-capable WiFi hotspot with an LCD and a 2,200mAh battery.
So far, so good — NetZero is becoming an MVNO. Yet strangely, there’s no mention in any of the PR as to which network the company is using. We test drove NetZero’s new wireless service over the weekend using the WiFi hotspot and figured out that it’s using Clearwire‘s WiMAX network. In fact NetZero’s 4G Stick is identical to the Clear 4G Mobile USB modem (manufactured by Ubee), and its 4G Hotspot is the same as the www.enga dget.com/2011/07/25/clearwire-announces-99-clear-spot-4g-apollo-hotspot/”>Clear Spot Apollo (a rather bulky unit made by Gemtek)– see the FCC links below and read on for our impressions after the break.

Yelp finally made its debut as a publicly-traded company today. It’s trading well above its IPO price of $15, ending the day at $24.58.
But Yelp faces a difficult path to becoming a profitable company. For now, the company has no clear path to profitability, according to Business Insider Intelligence research.

Verizon posts Galaxy Nexus simulator, doesn’t cap your virtual data
Source: http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/14/verizon-posts-galaxy-nexus-simulator-doesnt-cap-your-virtual-d/
Want to be an Ice Cream Sandwich champ before you even have a Galaxy Nexus in hand? Big Red’s just opened the e-freezer, launching its Samsung Galaxy Nexus support simulator, complete with programed hands-on tutorials for navigating menus, launching apps, taking beautiful food pictures with creamy bokeh and browsing various single-page Verizon sites. The tutorial isn’t a full sim in the traditional sense — it’s merely a microsite with static pages and limited animations — but it’s the closest many of us will get to playing with the real thing; until tomorrow, at least. Clear your schedule for the next five minutes, and hit up the source link for the smoothest smartphone experience you’re likely to ever have.
[Thanks, Zedster]
