Here’s an encouraging report for Microsoft. A new survey (.pdf) from mobile ad company Millennial Media reveals an equal number of publishers are planning on working on apps for Windows Phone 7 as the iPad in 2011.

As you can see in the chart below, adapted from WMPuser, 20% of the publishers surveyed say they’ll do work for the iPad for the first time and 20% say they’ll do work for Windows Phone 7 for the first time.

Arguably, this is discouraging since Microsoft has high hopes for Windows Phone 7. But we think it’s encouraging because it’s easier to port your app from iPhone to the iPad than it is to develop something from scratch for Windows Phone 7.

Who’s Using What? [Google]

500x android os market share Whos Using What? [Google]Google has updated its Developer-focused breakdown of the Android user base, generating a lovely green pie chart showing which versions of the mobile OS its users are on. Not that most people have a choice about it, of course.

The stats show that Android 2.1 is way in the lead, occupying the ROM space of 55.5% of all Android phones—with the very latest 2.2 update only sitting on 3.3% of handsets (that’ll be the Nexus One owners) that connected to the Android Market in the two-week period ending July 15.

Android 1.5 is still going strong, too, thanks to the slow pace of updates around the world and a few phones left in permanent limbo by their uncaring makers. [Android Developers]
