Amazon is keeping its pace of expanding Amazon Prime’s video collection every few months, and today it’s Paramount’s turn to swell the ranks. Instant Video is getting ‘hundreds’ of Paramount’s movies, including both relatively recent movies like Nacho Libre and Mission: Impossible III as well as back catalog titles like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Clear and Present Danger. As always, the movies are watchable anywhere you’ve got broadband, and they don’t add a premium to the $79 yearly Prime subscription. Just be prepared to explain why you’re watching Urban Cowboy on your Kindle Fire at the airport.

Super Bowl 2012 Ads Roundup: Galaxy Note, Hulu Plus, Best Buy and more
By now, we’ve become accustomed to the circus of elite advertising that takes place during America’s biggest game, and this year was no exception. Last night’s Super Bowl made room for over 50 commercials during its air time, some of which included the likes of Samsung’s whopping Galaxy Note, the usual Go Daddy domain teasers, a bit of Best Buy “innovation” and the Hulu Plus Mushy Mush campaign, just to mention a few. Needless to say, we put together a small collection of some we believe you might enjoy, so take a virtual jump past the break to catch the big-ticket advertising in action. You can also find the rest of the ad pack at the source link below.

These Time Magazine Covers Explain Why Americans Know Nothing About The World

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/these-time-magazine-covers-explain-why-americans-know-nothing-about-the-world-2011-11

It’s not news that Time magazines uses different covers for its different regional editions, but it’s only when you gather them all together — so you can see what Europe and Asia read in Time compared to what Americans read in Time — that it becomes clear how insular the U.S. edition of Time is.

If you live abroad, the current edition of time features a dramatic picture of an Arab rebel wearing a gas mask under the headline “Revolution Redux.” In America, we got “Why anxiety is good for you”:

time magazine covers

Hmm.

Publishing ain’t easy, of course. Editors need to pick what sells (and what sells advertising). There are good reasons why the U.S. audience won’t be as interested in Tintin as Europe’s would be, which explains why Tintin dominated the foreign Time covers on Oct. 31. In the U.S., to Time’s credit, that edition featured “The China Bubble,” a piece about whether economic growth in the East is sustainable.

That laudable example aside, however, this collection of recent Time covers does make us Americans look like we’re just not that interested in the rest of the world.

While the rest of the world gets a thoughtful piece about Islam, the U.S. gets … chores!

Cold Turkey

Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan may be the key democratically elected Muslim leader who stands at the crossroads between East and West, but hey! What about these inventions?!

Mom liked them best …

The Nov. 14 editions were soft features in all regions, but American exceptionalism was alive and well.

Net Promoter Score (NPS) – A Metrics “Sacred Cow” That Should be Slaughtered?

My main issues with the Net Promoter Score (NPS) is that it doesn’t tell me anything new, is based on flawed math, the number cannot stand alone, and is not actionable (does not tell marketers what to go do).

The Game Has Changed — Google Navigation Impact on Garmin and TomTom

garmin-tomtom--stock-price

Garmin and TomTom stock tanked on the launch of Droid with Google navigation (which is free).  What was thought to be a unique collection of data is not so unique any more.  Another industry bites the dust.
