We’re not crazy about all the lines, and the relationship may be spurious, but at least some analysts think there’s a connection. The theory is that Romney would fire Bernanke, and we’d get a more hawkish Fed.

DirecTv iPad App Lets You Stream Video Anywhere

Previously, DirecTV subscribers could use their iPad as some sorta pseudo TV because the app could stream Live TV while you were on your home Wi-Fi network. Now the app’s been updated to be even better: you can watch some content anywhere, even if you’re not at home.

It’s not a huge list of content providers yet but anywhere you get a Wi-Fi or 3G or 4G connection, you can stream content from HBO, Cinemax, Encore, Starz, Sony Movie Channel and DirecTV’s Audience Network. It’s a little interesting since if you were an HBO or Cinemax subscriber, you could just use the HBO GO or MAX GO apps to get their content but hey, any streaming content that’s not tying you to just inside your home for subscribers is always good. Twitter Thinks BeachMint Would Make An Interesting Acquisition

BeachmintJosh Berman Diego BerdakinTwitter’s corporate development director Mike Brown told a panel at Vator Splash that BeachMint, a service that lets customers buy products picked by celebrities, would be an interesting one for Twitter to buy next. 

Brown said that while celebrities make Twitter what it is, the celebrities are not paid to produce content.

“We are lucky they share content and say crazy things,” Brown said, because they make Twitter interesting to read.

Right now, celebrities tweet for free because of the exposure they get in real-time. They also get paid by brands to endorse products in various venues — including on Twitter.

Brown’s comments suggest that the company is at least thinking about getting more directly involved in those kinds of transactions.

Brown made his comments after ScaleVP’s Sharon Wienbar talked at length about Beachmint, an investment her firm made early on. For the celebrity connection to work, it has to feel authentic for social commerce.

I Don't Think I Want Polaroid's Android Point And Shoot Camera YetPolaroid is trying to stay relevant in the digital age with a camera that’s an Android mashup with a 3x optical zoom, 720p video, a 16 MB sensor and, well, a lot of head scratch.

The Android OS that powers the phone does have interesting capabilities—you’ll be able to edit photos on the fly, for example. And while it’s got WiFi and Bluetooth, there’s no always-on Internet connection, which makes it a little puzzling to me, as it’s not meant to replace your phone, and I’m not sure a 3x optical zoom is worth carrying two devices for, given how fantastic some of today’s phone cam capabilities are.

There was one really interesting thing about this camera that I’d love to see Polaroid is in talks with carriers to add data capabilities. It doesn’t have any yet, so this was really vague. But it’s likely going to have some sort of 3G capabilities at launch. I’d love to see that happen, and I’d love to see it get a speaker (right now while it has a microphone, it does not have a speaker). Combine data, a great camera, and Android and you’ve got a pretty great little go-anywhere VOIP phone that won’t force you to lock in a monthly minutes plan.

In any case, this thing will be out in the Fall, maybe with a data plan. No pricing. Could be interesting. Could be very much not so.

Your Data’s Probably Gone Forever [Outages]

T-Mobile Sidekick users have been holding out hope that their data might be recovered after T-Mo issued an optimistic message of hope. But the carrier just updated users and admitted the truth: Your shit’s gone. Sorry, guys.

It’s been more than two weeks without data for Sidekick users, and T-Mobile finally bit the bullet and announced that it probably isn’t coming back. The quote:

Regrettably, based on Microsoft/Danger’s latest recovery assessment of their systems, we must now inform you that personal information stored on your device – such as contacts, calendar entries, to-do lists or photos – that is no longer on your Sidekick almost certainly has been lost as a result of a server failure at Microsoft/Danger. That said, our teams continue to work around-the-clock in hopes of discovering some way to recover this information. However, the likelihood of a successful outcome is extremely low.

This is pretty crappy of T-Mobile and Danger, and while it’s probably unfair to make this connection, doesn’t give us any new confidence in Project Pink, developed by the remnants of Danger after Microsoft acquired it. (After all, Microsoft bought Danger specifically because of their software services. And now, it just goes kablooey?) Renowned Sidekick user and a-hole Perez Hilton, while normally hysteric about just about everything, has the right tone here:

To add insult to injury, the ONLY thing T-Mobile is offering their customers, whom they obviously don’t value or respect, is one month of free data service.

That’s shit!

One month of free data service (which is not the same thing as one month of free phone use) for SEVEN DAYS of heartache and no access to contacts????

That’s fucked!!!!

Design Principles for the modern digital world

Don’t design 2 or 3 websites. Design one, but make sure it is accessible by whatever medium or device the user chooses to use to access it.

You can start with a site that has:
1) javascript and AJAX
2) no script version
3) mobile version

When you design for mobile, think of what tidbit of information the user is really after. For example, Google Mobile is smart enough to return “27 – 17 with 3:14 left in the game” when I type a search for “dallas cowboys’ score.” Versus Google which returns a list of website search results when I access it via a browser on a broadband connection. Google detects what device I am using when I am searching and returns the exact thing that I was looking for based on the device and channel I am using.
