Street View Hits Mars With This 4-Gigapixel Panoramic There’s been no shortage of Mars pictures since Curiosity landed. We’ve got Martian mountains, rover selfies, the works. But thanks to a little image stitching by a clever dude back here on Earth, now we have Mars Street View, kind of.

Photographer Andrew Bodrov took a whopping 407 of the pictures Curiosity took with its narrow and medium http://gizmodo.com/5992799/street-view-hits-mars-with-this-4+gigapixel-panoramic?preview=true cameras and hooked them together to make a four gigapixel, 360 Mars-globe, the likes of which you’d expect from a Martian Street View UFO.

What’s even wilder is that the seemingly seamless scene wasn’t actually taken all at once or even close to it; the pictures that make it up were taken over a series 13, monotonus Martian days, which are just about a half hour longer than our own. The Social Makeup of Social Media: Income Breakdown

Out of sheer curiosity, we here at Compete used our demographic data to craft a mini-infographic showing the income breakdown across 6 of the top social sites. The US Browser Population is lined beneath each data-set for further comparison and context.

Of these properties, LinkedIn shows the most notable emphasis towards a specific demographic, individuals earning 60k and above. Pinterest shows a slightly higher representation among higher income demographics and Tumblr shows the same slight skew towards less affluent demographics.

Facebook and Google+ show even representation between all demographics, probably a result of how pervasive they are across the social-scape.

Gamers Chipping Away At Digital Cube Are Promised ‘Life-Changing’ Secret

This is how the just-released game Curiosity: What’s Inside The Cube? works: Anyone with an iPhone or iPad can download the iOS app. With the app, the players connect on the Internet, furiously tapping on their screens to remove pixely chunks of a single, gigantic cube. The one player lucky enough to remove the final pixel from the cube gets to see what creator Peter Molyneux calls a “life-changing” secret. So naturally, the gamers have already worked together to chip out pixels that form swear words. But still. Pretty neat game idea. [Kotaku]

Google pulls back the curtain on its new voice search

Google has revealed just how it harnesses your idle curiosity on every subject imaginable to supercharge its voice search. A database of 230 billion googled words was fed into a language model that can then work out the probability of what you’re going to say next. Mountain View researcher Ciprian Chelba explained that one example of this is if you say “New York,” you’re statistically more likely to say “Pizza” than “Granola,” regardless of any new year’s resolutions.
