Search is the top app discovery tool. According to Nielsen, 63 percent of Android and iOS users have utilized search to discover new apps in their respective app stores.

While most developers focus on cracking the top 25, search is becoming an increasingly important tool in the “long tail” of mobile apps. App revenue is no longer as concentrated with the proliferation of apps, which helps explain why Apple is buying a company like Chomp to revamp search in the App Store.

Next Issue Media launches on Android, $15 a month for access to 32 magazines
If you’ve taken issue with your usual choices for buying magazines on your tablet, be it pay-per-issue or per-subscription, you’re not alone. If you’ll recall, it was nearly a year ago that Next Issue Media launched the preliminary version of its “Hulu-meets-magazines” app on the Galaxy Tab, and it’s finally ready to release this physical newsstand alternative officially. After raking in a slew of deals last November, its Android 3.0 app is now available — users can fork over a monthly fee of $10 to access all of its monthly and bi-weekly content, while an extra five bucks adds in weekly content, essentially giving you access to every publication on offer. Singular subscriptions are also available for two to 10 bucks, and you’ll currently have a choice of 32 mags from the likes of Car and Driver to The New Yorker. Interestingly, TechCrunch notes that NIM plans to get the app over to iOS “soon” — it’ll surely be interesting to see how it competes with Apple’s own Newsstand. You’ll find more info at the via links below, and you can flip over to the source for details about a 30-day trial offer.

Intel Creates $100 Million Fund To Make Your Car Smarter (INTC)

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/intel-creates-100-million-fund-to-make-your-car-smarter-2012-2

Ferrari F12berlinetta CarIntel Capital announced today a $100 million fund devoted to cars.

So what’s a chip company doing betting on technology in cars?

Intel estimates that by 2014, cars will be one of the top three fastest-growing markets for connected devices and Internet content. That eventually gives Intel an opportunity to put more of its chips in a whole new place: cars.

As an Intel manager put it in the press release announcing the fund: “The car is the ultimate mobile device.”

The Intel Capital Connected Car Fund will invest in technologies such as advanced driver assistance systems, speech recognition, gesture recognition, and eye tracking.

But there’s no mention of self-driving cars just yet. That is all Google for now.
