Trent Reznor teases Beats-backed streaming music service, wants a personal touch

Trent Reznor gives clues to his Beatsbacked streaming music service, wants a personal touch

Dr. Dre isn’t the only musician to collaborate with Beats on projects deeper than one-off headphone models. Nine Inch Nails and How To Destroy Angels creator Trent Reznor tells The New Yorker that he and Beats are developing a streaming music service, codenamed Daisy, that should go beyond just automatically suggesting related songs like with Pandora. Alongside algorithm-based picks, Daisy should introduce “intelligent curation” from humans to make musical connections that wouldn’t otherwise take place. We’ll know more when the service goes live early next year; we’re presuming the recommendations will involve more than just another spin of The Downward Spiral.

A Forgettable Camera/Media Player Is Suddenly Worth Remembering When It's Just $22It’s been quite a while since a personal media player finagled its way onto the site, and while eMatic’s new eSport Clip is probably a marginal-at-best media player and digital camera, it’s worth noting that it’s also just 22 bucks.

For reference, it will cost you $40 just to get the extended warranty on the display-less iPod Shuffle, which doesn’t come with a camera. And while the image quality on the eSport Clip is probably even more abysmal than the iPad 2’s camera, and you’ll be no doubt squinting at its tiny 1.8-inch display, you’ve probably already forgotten that it’s just $22, available excusively from Walmart. You Probably Can’t Tell the Difference Between This and a Theater Projector [Video]

Source: http://gizmodo.com/5875000/sonys-4k-home-projector-eyes+on-you-probably-cant-tell-the-difference-between-this-and-a-theater-projector

Sony's 4K Home Projector Eyes-On: You Probably Can't Tell the Difference Between This and a Theater ProjectorSony’s 4K projector was first announced last year, but they have the thing on display at CES this year. After getting to zone out in a pitch black room where the projector blasted the new Spider Man trailer at full resolution on a 182-inch screen, I’m sold on the idea.

What makes 4K exciting for the home is that it provides a sharp image for large display sizes. 1080p video is great on a 60-inch TV, but it’s not quite as amazing when you try to project a 100-inch image on a wall. But 4K is made for screens exceeding 100 inches. So how did it look? While watching the trailer, I swore I had just paid $75 for a movie ticket and a small popcorn.

Colors were rich and bright. Nothing was washed out. Small details, like wrinkles on people’s faces or textures on a building were sharply defined. I go watch movies because I love the large screen experience. If I had one of these things, I probably wouldn’t go to the movies anymore.

Yahoo launches IntoNow for iPad, recommends telling it how it is

Source: http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/04/yahoo-launches-intonow-for-ipad-recommends-telling-it-how-it-is/

TV companion app IntoNow has made its first major foray since it was snapped up by Yahoo earlier this year. Its new iPad app is now up for grabs and brings the same contextual magicks found on the iPhone version, expanded to make the most of the Apple tablet‘s 9.7-inch screen. The app picks up on audio cues made by whatever you’re watching on TV and then displays websites, game scores, even Twitter feeds of musicians and other famous types shown on the big(ger) screen. Now you can tell those overpaid athletes and awful, awful actors exactly what they did wrong. Trolling’s never been so convenient.

Vapor4 May Be the First Bumper Worthy of the iPhone 4

The ecosystem for the iPhone4 has begun in earnest.

Source: http://gizmodo.com/5576923/vapor4-may-be-the-first-bumper-worthy-of-the-iphone-4

Vapor4 May Be the First Bumper Worthy of the iPhone 4The iPhone 4 shatters easily, and its tiny plastic bezel offers no protection. On top of that, touching its metal rim causes interferences. The Vapor4 bumper—made of aluminum—may solve most of these design problems. And it looks great:

Of course, nothing looks as cool as the iPhone 4 on its own, but if you want to avoid the antenna problems and the shattering, you are going to need one of these. They are made of aluminum, and they have an interior liner that separates the metal from the antenna, insulating it. The manufacturer—the same who makes the beautiful Joule iPad stand—told me that their tests showed no interference whatsoever across all models of iPhone:

We basically wrapped it in an inch thick of anodized aluminum all around with our special secret liner inside, nothing impacted the reception.

We will have to test this, but it definitely is the first bumper that actually looks cool. Especially the way you put it together, with those hex screws.

The Vapor4 is not cheap, although not as expensive as the beautiful exotic wood back replacement: The Vapor4 is $80. For $100 you also get the V4Carbon, a carbon fiber back plate that will further protect the iPhone 4 fragile glass back. [Elementcase]

Samsung’s SCH-W880 12 megapixel phonecamera with 3x optical zoom

Source: http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/28/samsungs-sch-w880-12-megapixel-phonecamera-with-3x-optical-zoom/

In a welcome reversal of trends, Samsung just stuffed a 3G cellphone into a 12 megapixel camera making this M8920 / SCH-W880 more of a camera than most 12 megapixel cameraphones can claim. While this presumed follow-up to Samsung’s Pixon 12 (M8910) isn’t official, the announcement looks imminent based on the leaked collateral above and the spyshots that emerged over the weekend. What’s impressive here is that extending 3x optical zoom — something carried over from the SCH-B600 — and dedicated camera controls like a mode dial, shutter and zoom, and big 3.3-inch WVGA AMOLED display. Rounding out the specs are HD (720p presumably) video, HSDPA data, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, microSD slot, and DMB mobile television; that latter spec making this Korea-only whenever it does launch. See her in the wild after the break.
