It’s no secret that emerging markets are producing an increasing number of millionaires each year.

The Financialist, Credit Suisse’s digital magazine about business and economies, recently released a Global Wealth Report which looked at personal wealth around the globe. The report found that in the next five years more and more millionaires will come from countries in the developing world, such as Brazil and China.

By 2017, China, which currently has 964,000 millionaires, will have 1,901,000 millionaires—a growth of 97 percent, according to The Financialist. And Brazil, which currently has 227,000 millionaires, will have 497,000 millionaires by 2017—a growth of 119 percent. Russia and Malaysia will also see their numbers of millionaires grow over the next five years with a growth of 109 percent and 108 percent respectively.

YouTube Axing 60 Percent of Its Original Content Channels

Source: http://gizmodo.com/5959691/youtube-axing-60-percent-of-its-original-content-channels

medium YouTube Axing 60 Percent of Its Original Content ChannelsBack in January, YouTube announced that it was launching around 160 channels of fresh, original content, that it would invest in to help it compete with traditional cable and network programming. Less than a year on, it’s axing over half of them.

YouTube injected $200 million into the project, which includes channels like The Onion and Jay-Z’s Life and Times. Seems the rewards haven’t been as forthcoming as they’d like: 60 percent are being axed, and YouTube will cream off 100 percent of incoming revenue from the ones that aren’t renewed.

As for what will and won’t make the cut, All Things D reports that it’s not revenue that’s the deciding factor, but watch time of the channels instead. [All Things D via Verge]

Google Play carrier billing goes live for impulse buyers on Verizon

Google gave the broadest of targets when it said Google Play carrier billing would reach Verizon in the “coming weeks” — those last two words are often hints from companies that we shouldn’t hold our breath. Call us surprised, then, when Google quietly takes the option live two weeks later. At least one Droid-Life reader has discovered that it’s now possible to load as many as $25 in purchases per month on an existing Big Red smartphone bill and pay through just the one channel. The move puts all four major US carriers on the same page, and gives Verizon subscribers an incentive to splurge on apps and movies for that new Droid RAZR HD… so long as they remember to deal with the financial fallout afterwards.

It’s no secret that America is getting fatter.

But these two maps from Bank of America strategist Sarbjit Nahal’s report Globesity – The Global Fight Against Obesity show how fast the nation is shifting towards obesity.

The map on the left shows that in 1990, 10 states in the CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System had an obesity prevalence of less than 10 percent, and no state had a prevalence more than 15 percent.

Fast-forward two decades to 2010, and no state has a prevalence of obesity less than 20 percent, and 12 states have an obesity prevalence of 30 percent or more.

Nahal notes:

The highest prevalence of obesity in the US is in the south. Mississippi, the most obese state (34%) for the sixth consecutive year, is also one of the poorest and suffers from low insurance coverage, a weak education system and high unemployment.

Love Amazon’s renowned two-day shipping? How about organic eats and other miscellaneous environment-friendly products? If so, then today’s your very lucky day. Adding to the endless list of shopping sites it already owns, Amazon has just introduced Vine.com; a site which aims to be a one-stop web store for folks looking to snag anything from organic ingredients to beauty products like all-natural shaving oils and Kiss My Face foam soaps — and yes, as we stated earlier, there’s an option to get that speedy two-day delivery service. While chatting with Bits Blog, a Vine representative said the goal isn’t “necessarily about saving the planet,” but that his team does “feel the products are useful in that regard.” Currently Vine.com is live in beta form, though that doesn’t mean folks interested can’t go browse around and order some goodies — to do that, give the source link below a quick tap.
