Investor Laura Sachar says she can spot entrepreneurs who have ideas, but don’t know how to execute them.
Sachar, general partner and founder of StarVest Partners, has been involved in early stage companies since the mid-’90s. She shared her insights on a panel at Business Insider’s Startup 2012 conference:
Sachar focuses on people in the early stage, because it’s about the belief that the person can figure out what to do with the business to make it successful.
“Often, the initial idea is not how the company succeeds and drives revenue,” says Sachar. “Focusing on the people first, and a belief that they can develop attractive ideas and move from there, makes sense.”
There needs to be a clear path that shows that the person can turn the idea into something real.
“If you can’t execute, you don’t have a company,” she says. “A lot of people have ideas.”
Nowadays, companies don’t need as much money to get momentum. She suggests that you take more money than you think you need (if it’s available), because so many investors are looking for the companies that are gaining tons of velocity in the early going. By having that money, you have more resources to pull that off.

In digital marketing, the third screen is often seen as the “holy grail” since it is a device that most users have with them 24/7. However, that doesn’t mean advertisers have the right to “spam” people at all hours with messages, no matter how targeted.

Three years ago, Ars Technica discovered that when you “deleted” your photos, they were still kept on Facebook’s servers, and anyone with a static URL could still access it. Three years later, Ars Technica revisited the matter and found little has changed. But Facebook says that things will be different…eventually.
Ars Technica’s Jacqui Cheng got Facebook to comment on the matter, they’re developing a new one which will permanently wipe photo off their servers within 45 days of a user “deleting” the photo from the site.
“The systems we used for photo storage a few years ago did not always delete images from content delivery networks in a reasonable period of time even though they were immediately removed from the site,” Facebook spokesperson Frederic Wolens told Ars via e-mail.
Wolens explained that photos remaining online are stuck in a legacy system that was apparently never operating properly, but said the company is working on a new system that will delete the photos in a mere month and a half. For really real this time.

Below is a look at the popularity (based on Google search volume) of Tim Tebow since the end of the NFL lockout in July. The first thing you will notice is that after the Denver Broncos playoff run, Tebow is now more popular on the internet than Jesus.
But if you look closer, you can see an even more telling trend. As Tebow’s popularity has increased, so has that of Jesus. And everytime we see a peak in Tebow’s popularity, we also see a peak in the popularity of Jesus. In fact, since the onset of Tebowmania, the popularity of searches for Jesus on Google have increased by approximately 50 percent.
No matter what anybody thinks of Tebow, it cannot be denied that he is one of those rare athletes that transcends sports.

As you can see in the chart below, digital streaming/sales only accounted for 19% of the home entertainment market in the third quarter. The rest of sales comes from DVD/Blu-ray discs.

Through the first 124 games of the regular season (~10%), average attendance in the NHL is down more than 400 fans per game, averaging just 16,684. Capacity is also down with arenas filling just 91.0 percent of available seats. And this number is heavily influenced by the opening night attendance figures which are typically a big draw.
On the other hand, the New York Rangers are yet to play a home game, and their attendance will pull the league average up slightly.
But with the NBA in disarray, these numbers must be a disappointment for the NHL no matter how they are spun…
