Pinterest is EVIL – It Auto-Follows People and Posts to your Facebook Timeline

When I looked at my own Facebook Timeline, to my horror I saw Pinterest had followed people I didnt know and definitely did NOT follow AND it posted it to my Facebook Timeline.  No wonder I keep getting notices of other people following me — people I don’t know or others whom I have not interacted with for years!.

The more I use Pinterest the more I HATE it.  See my previous post about Pinterest auto-following 274 Facebook friends when I signed up, without first checking with me.

RIM’s Twitter Campaign Goes Horribly Wrong #BeBold

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/rims-twitter-campaign-goes-horribly-wrong-bebold-2012-1

RIM’s latest marketing campaign is based around a squad of cartoon characters called the Bold Team, accompanied by the #BeBold hashtag on Twitter. It wasn’t a good idea.

Why? Because the campaign is blowing up in RIM’s face. Spectacularly.

The vague hashtag, plus the cheesiness of the cartoon characters, prompted the masses to hijack #BeBold. So now, just one week after McDonald’s reminded marketers everywhere how NOT to do a Twitter campaign, RIM makes the same mistake. It’s getting ripped on by its own hashtag (via Gizmodo).

Take a look at what people are tweeting. It entirely consists of folks railing on either the cartoon, or the company as a whole:

How low can you go? Poll of what percentage of people trust advertising

Source:  http://www.marketingcharts.com/topics/behavioral-marketing/distateful-ads-hurt-brand-appeal-12414

34%  of respondents 18 and up said soft drink advertising was the most trustworthy,

22%  said fast food advertisements rated most trustworthy

18% pharmaceutical companies

14% auto companies

13% financial services companies

If 1 in 3 or as low as 1 in 10 trust ads, even if they saw the ads, they are likely to ignore them or NOT base their purchase decisions on them. Imagine if you had spent a ton of money making the ad, and another ton of money to air or place the ad, how low the ROI would be, if any.
