Pack

Most market share studies are broken down by individual categories that don’t tell the whole story of their successes and failures. IDC has stepped forward with a more holistic look that covers PCs, phones and tablets all at once — and paints a very different picture. Samsung and Apple lead the pack in the third quarter of this year with an estimated 21.8 and 15.1 percent share each, based mostly on their mobile dominance. Lenovo’s equal balance between its rapidly growing PC and phone businesses put it at 7 percent. It’s those who haven’t done well outside of PCs that have struggled: IDC is quick to point out that HP’s exit from mobile left it at 4.6 percent and sinking fast, while it’s commonly known that Sony has yet to enjoy a truly blockbuster hit with its Android-based smartphones or tablets. The situation is changing quickly, but the data shows that companies can’t lean solely on traditional computers to thrive in the broader technology landscape.

The Paris Motor Show just wrapped up, and now automakers have moved south to Sydney, where the Australian International Motor Show starts tomorrow.
For the occasion, Lexus is continuing its tour of the LF-CC, its high-end hybrid concept. First revealed in Detroit in January, the LF-LC is back with an update.
The latest take on the concept is the LF-LC Blue, a sports version with a new color and a more powerful battery pack and engine to pump out 500 bhp.
Other than that, it’s the same car, but it’s still worth a closer look.
Here’s the LF-LC in red at its Detroit debut.
Not much has changed since then, but it’s still a good looking car.
For Australia, Lexus went with ‘Opal Blue.’

Hey, uh, Olympics spectators? Really glad you made it out and all, totally appreciate the support and money you spent on those tickets and the fact that you painted those little flags on your faces. All of that’s great, seriously. But it turns out you’re also tweeting so much that it’s interfering with our event broadcasts. So knock it off. Please.
That’s the basic message from the International Olympic Committee, which Reuters reports has asked viewers of outdoor races to cool it a little with with social media. The reason? A surge of tweets during yesterday’s cycling road race made competent television coverage nearly impossible:
Commentators on Saturday’s men’s cycling road race were unable to tell viewers how far the leaders were ahead of the chasing pack because data could not get through from the GPS satellite navigation system travelling with the cyclists.
Organizers fear the same fate awaits the men’s and women’s marathon and the triathlon, unless live viewers refrain themselves from tweeting unless it’s “urgent,” which honestly there’s no such thing as an urgent tweet, right? That’s silly.
Anyways! The most likely outcome is that people will continue to tweet, and signals will continue to take a hit, and we’ll all continue to have a good laugh about how far behind our infrastructure is from where we need it to be in an age of real-time everything. [Reuters]

By now, we’ve become accustomed to the circus of
elite advertising that takes place during
America’s biggest game, and this year was no exception. Last night’s Super Bowl made room for over 50 commercials during its air time, some of which included the likes of Samsung’s whopping
Galaxy Note, the usual
Go Daddy domain teasers, a bit of
Best Buy “innovation” and the
Hulu Plus Mushy Mush campaign, just to mention a few. Needless to say, we put together a small collection of some we believe you might enjoy, so take a virtual jump past the break to catch the big-ticket advertising in action. You can also find the rest of the ad pack at the source link below.

It’s no surprise why online shopping is so popular.
“You get the item quickly, you don’t pay for shipping, you often receive better prices, and you don’t have to leave your house,” said Andrew Schrage, founder of Money Crashers.
Perhaps in response to shoppers like Schrage, businesses have been giving away free shipping with a vengeance.
Some 93 percent of stores will offer at least one free shipping deal this year, which means a six percent increase from last year. Meanwhile 30 percent of store sites will offer free shipping on Cyber Monday, according to the National Retail Federation.
Experts like Kit Yarrow, a professor of psychology and marketing at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, Calif., told Smart Money that free shipping has become an expectation. However, things don’t always don’t always pan out for consumers.
Retailers may raise the price of their products to make up for shipping costs or bar consumers from using coupons. She also warns shoppers to consider the overall package, including whether or not you can combine discounts.
Besides analyzing the overall deal, Schrage advises shoppers to stick to Web-based companies when shopping online.
“Online sites like Amazon almost ALWAYS have as cheap, and usually cheaper, prices than these retailers who also provide free shipping,” he said.
He points out that companies like Amazon even offer two-day shipping for free, and maintain great return policies that prove to be better than those of bricks-and-mortar stores.
From time to time Schrage admits you will seen an online site offer a higher retail price with free shipping. But stay away—you can score a better deal.
