Google Chrome Beats Internet Explorer To Become The World’s Most Popular Browser (MSFT, GOOG, AAPL)

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-top-browsers-2012-5

Google’s Chrome browser, which doesn’t come pre-installed on any computer, has leapt past Internet Explorer, which is pre-installed in over 90% of all computers, to become the most popular web browser.

This comes from StatCounter, which tracks web traffic through its own widget. It’s not a perfect data set, but it seems to be as good as any other, and most other analytics groups seem to be illustrating the same trend.

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/stats-cee-lo-was-more-popular-than-madonna-in-the-super-bowl-halftime-show-2012-2

Ceelo Madonna

Think headliner Madonna was the highlight of Sunday night’s Super Bowl halftime show performance?

Think again.

According to ClearSpring, the most tweeted about/Facebooked/e-mailed/printed/overall social-media’s most clicked upon celeb of the night was none other than Cee Lo Green.

Cee Lo beat out not only Madonna as the most talked about on the internet during the big game, but also Kelly Clarkson, M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj.

After taking the stage dressed as a band leader and dueting with Madonna on “Express Yourself” and the grand finale, “Like a Prayer,” Cee Lo fans freaked, causing his online presence to surge to over 2,000 percent above normal—and nearly double any other Super Bowl act.

Cee Lo couldn’t be reached for comment but we have a feeling we know what he would say to his competition and haters: “Forget You.”

Check out the chart below that proves Cee Lo’s online popularity:

Jesus Is Now More Popular Thanks To Tim Tebow

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/nfl-chart-jesus-is-now-more-popular-thanks-to-tim-tebow-2012-1

Below is a look at the popularity (based on Google search volume) of Tim Tebow since the end of the NFL lockout in July. The first thing you will notice is that after the Denver Broncos playoff run, Tebow is now more popular on the internet than Jesus.

But if you look closer, you can see an even more telling trend. As Tebow’s popularity has increased, so has that of Jesus. And everytime we see a peak in Tebow’s popularity, we also see a peak in the popularity of Jesus. In fact, since the onset of Tebowmania, the popularity of searches for Jesus on Google have increased by approximately 50 percent.

No matter what anybody thinks of Tebow, it cannot be denied that he is one of those rare athletes that transcends sports.

The Pants You’re Buying At Big Retailers Are Actually WAY Larger Than The Size Advertised

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/pants-size-advertised-2011-12

Your pant size is probably lying to you to make you feel better about yourself, reports Abram Sauer at Esquire.

It’s called “vanity sizing,” and it’s the reason why you find out your size is different at the various stores in the mall. It’s an infamous way marketers use to influence women buyers, but they do it for men as well.

The folks at Esquire’s Style blog put together this nifty graphic on the real size of pants, compared with what the brands advertise (for men’s pants):

esquire pants sizes

Apparently marketers think that the vanity factor outweighs the confusion the sizes create for customers.

One solution out there for consumers is a body scanner called MyBestFit, which can tell you your size in various brands. It’s kind of creepy and airport-like, but it works.

What do you think of this practice? Do you want brands to make you feel better about yourself, or do you think they’re just lying to you?

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-ipad-subs-2011-12

We’re still in the early days of magazines on tablets, but this chart from Peter Kafka at All Things D showing sales of Popular Science’s iPad app looks pretty decent for publishers.

As you can see sales have been steadily climbing and got a nice boost when Apple introduced the “newsstand,” which makes it easier for users to subscribe to magazines.

Here’s Who Owns Facebook

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-of-the-day-facebook-ownership-2011-12

There’s only one reason Facebook is going to IPO: To make its employees and investors rich. Otherwise, Mark Zuckerberg would (somewhat ironically) keep the company private forever.

Who’s getting rich when the company does IPO? Using information leaked to Ryan Tate at Gawker, we have a breakdown here. Assuming Facebook can get that $100 billion valuation being floated in the press, here’s who would be worth what.

The Days of Single Purpose Devices Are Numbered – Digital Cameras vs Cameraphones

With the proliferation of smartphones like the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S and android devices, users now have digital cameras with them at all times. These digital cameras shoot 5 megapixel – 8 MP still shots and 720p or even 1080i HD video. Furthermore, their built in GPS automatically attaches geolocation information to images and videos.
As can be seen in the charts published by Flickr below, the Apple iPhone 4 has already shot past other major cameras from Nikon and Canon to be the most popular overall camera in the Flickr Community. With additional more detailed data, the Apple iPhone 4 (both 4 and 4S) has an average daily users count of 5,798 while the 2 most popular Canon point and shoot cameras (S95 and SD1100S) have a combined average daily users count of 980.  The iPhone has about 5x the activity.

NHL Attendance Is A Huge Disappointment So Far

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/chart-nhl-attendance-is-down-despite-nba-lockout-2011-10

With the NBA lockout still in full-swing, now would seem like a golden opportunity for the NHL. But early returns from the ticket office are not encouraging.

Through the first 124 games of the regular season (~10%), average attendance in the NHL is down more than 400 fans per game, averaging just 16,684. Capacity is also down with arenas filling just 91.0 percent of available seats. And this number is heavily influenced by the opening night attendance figures which are typically a big draw.

On the other hand, the New York Rangers are yet to play a home game, and their attendance will pull the league average up slightly.

But with the NBA in disarray, these numbers must be a disappointment for the NHL no matter how they are spun…
