drop photos, trials simplified Timeline and delivers new privacy controls

Anyone who’s returned from an event with a virtual armful of photos may have been frustrated with Facebook’s upload interface, which until now has involved a less-than-intuitive file browser. The company is quietly solving that problem: an update pushing out to individual users lets them drag-and-drop photos into a new post, like we’ve seen on other social networks, and to a newly streamlined Messages format that’s rolling out at the same time. A much smaller circle is seeing a second update. Facebook has confirmed to ABC News that it’s conducting limited trials of an updated Timeline that moves the news feed to a single column, replaces the thumbnail navigation with simpler-looking tabs and makes all profile page information available through scrolling. A spokesperson wouldn’t say if or when the new Timeline would reach the wider public, but history points to “when” being more likely. They did however mention that the new privacy shortcuts, activity log and untagging tool would be going live for all users starting tonight, and we’ve already seen them pop up on some of our accounts.

These Timelines Break Down Every Facebook, Twitter And LinkedIn Acquisition Ever

Everyone remembers when Facebook bought Instagram for a headline-friendly billion dollars last April. But what about the 10 companies it acquired after that? Or the 29 prior?
The social media landscape is in such a constant state of flux that it’s sometimes hard to remember who did what when.
The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and The Jordan, Edmiston Group Inc (JEGI) teamed up to take snapshots of what the social media ecosystem looks like right now.
Among other things, its report also breaks down the acquisition timelines for major digital players, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Salesforce, and Google.
Facebook’s acquisition timeline:
According to the report, ”Facebook has acqui‐hired talented staff f! rom a nu mber of companies in addition to its traditional M&A, focusing on enhanced content sharing/discovery (FriendFeed, Face.com), IP (Tagtile), location awareness (Gowalla), ecommerce/gifts (Karma) and mobile (Glancee, Lightbox).”
Furthermore, Facebook is known to scoop up its competition for hefty chunks of change. When threatened by Instagram in the image and mobile space, Facebook bought the start-up for a cool billion dollars.
Twitter’s acquisition timeline:
Twitter’s acquisitions help boost user experience and its ad-based business model.
The report notes that “areas of interest include keyword bidding, social marketing automation, geo‐targeted ads, and social analytics,” which is reflected by recent buys.
LinkedIn’s acquisition timeline:
LinkedIn acquired SlideShare, a company that allows users to easily share business documents and presentations, for $119 in May 2012. Apart from that, LinkedIn’s acquisitions “have typically focused on tuck‐ins and tend to acquire businesses that are pre‐revenue.”

Pinterest is EVIL – It Auto-Follows People and Posts to your Facebook Timeline
When I looked at my own Facebook Timeline, to my horror I saw Pinterest had followed people I didnt know and definitely did NOT follow AND it posted it to my Facebook Timeline. No wonder I keep getting notices of other people following me — people I don’t know or others whom I have not interacted with for years!.

Moo has announced a clever new design, which allows you to “take your Facebook Timeline offline, and hand it out to new friends, contacts and potential clients.” Wildly enough, creating ‘em is as easy as tweaking your Timeline. Once you’re ready to roll, just sign in and allow Moo to access your data (cue privacy advocate yelling), check that you spelled your name right and hand over $15 for a stack of 50 cards. Once you receive ‘em, you can navigate back to the site and Like its page as a reward… oh, wait.
