If You’re Still Unimpressed With Bitcoin Wait Until You See This Bitcoin ATM

Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/robocoin-bitcoin-atm-2013-9

RoboCoin is a digital kiosk that lets its customers buy and sell Bitcoin for cash. For all intents and purposes, it’s a Bitcoin ATM.

Brothers Mark and John Russell of Las Vegas are the brains of the operation, having already run a software company that builds software powering more conventional ATMs. Russell was already an avid Bitcoiner, so building a Bitcoin ATM was just a natural extension of what they were already doing.

Here’s how it works. You put your cash deposit into the machine and either it tell it to generate a digital Bitcoin wallet for you and put your money there, or give the machine a preexisting wallet address for depositing your coins. It will print a QR code as a receipt of your transaction. About 10 minutes later, the Bitcoin network will push your transaction through, giving you access to your new Bitcoins.

If you want cash for your Bitcoins, bring your QR code back to a RoboCoin kiosk, scan it, and watch as it dispenses your physical money. Bitcoin to cash instantly, cash to Bitcoin almost instantly (consider the three- or four-day waiting period).

The Russells don’t intend to operate the RoboCoins themselves, but will instead sell the devices to operating partners for $18,500 (the price will later rise to $20,000). It’s not clear where the brothers foresee the ATMs being placed. Those who buy the kiosks will have to be smart when it comes to following financial regulations. These ATMs are essentially a money-launderer’s dream come true, but that’s hardly the point here. Where Bitcoin likely feels intractable for some, RoboCoin brings it into the physical world. Suddenly we’re dealing with Bitcoin right in front of us in terms that we understand – it’s just like any ATM you’ve used a thousand times before. It simply builds a bridge between digital and physical currency.

The first RoboCoin kiosk will open later this year in Vancouver and will spread quickly thereafter, according to the plan. The Glas! ers tell us there’s already plenty of interest. Check out the video below to see what a sample transaction looks like:

drag2share: Tracking Winners And Losers In The Multibillion-Dollar Mobile Phone Payments Revolution

bii_mobilepayments2013_paypalConsumers gravitate to convenience. That’s as true with payment technologies as it is with anything else. A prime example is the decades-old trend away from cash or checks and toward credit cards.

Now, the mass adoption of smartphones and tablets has set the stage for a new move — away from offline card-and cash-based transactions and toward those completed on mobile. The old dream of the “digital wallet” is coming true in a very particular mobile-led fashion.

drag2share: Apple’s Passbook Ecosystem – How It May Still Shake Up Mobile Payments

source: http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/businessinsider/~3/K5nKD73XEaE/apple-passbooks-barriers-and-successes-2013-7

BII_Passbook_CCsWhen Passbook launched, excitement was high — among marketers and retailers in particular.

Forget The E-Wallet, It’s Apple’s Passbook That Will Transform Retail,” declared an op-ed in Ad Age in October 2012, just two weeks after the iOS 6 launch. The op-ed was written by Krishna Subramanian, CEO of ad company Velti.

“With Passbook,” wrote Subramanian, “the integration of promotions, redemption, and ongoing loyalty will be closer — and more location-specific — than ever.

Subramanian pointed out that Passbook also solved a real problem: that coupons don’t work very well.

Some Handy Upgrades Are Coming To Gmail (GOOG)

google send money via gmail and google wallet

Gmail is already pretty great, but Google just announced a couple of new features to make it even better.

For one, Google added some “quick action” buttons designed to help you better handle your email and accomplish tasks on your to-do list.

For example, if your friend invites you to a birthday party, you can RSVP without ever opening the email. The quick actions are rolling out over the next few weeks.

Another exciting feature is the ability to send money through Gmail, thanks to a new integration with Google Wallet. As long as your bank account is linked to Google Wallet or you have Google Wallet credit, you can send money for free to friends and family.

Google plans to roll out this feature “over the coming months” to U.S.-based Gmail users over the age of 18.

Google Wallet hack hits Verizon Galaxy S III

Google Wallet hack hits Verizon Galaxy S III

Verizon may not want you to have Google Wallet on your phone, but that won’t stop intrepid rooters and hackers from shoehorning the app into Big Red’s handsets. Mike Beauchamp and Dustin Evans took some time away from their recent Kansas City trip (to check out Google Fiber, of course) to get the Mountain View mobile payment solution up and running on a Galaxy S III. Is it more difficult than rooting your device and installing the app? Just a bit. Beauchamp’s video doesn’t offer much in the way of instruction, but it does show it being used to buy breakfast at Mickey D’s. Thankfully, it looks like some folks over at the XDA forums have documented the solution, just check out the more coverage link.

Adobe Muse is ready to let you design websites without the coding headaches for $15 a month

Adobe Muse is ready to let you design websites without the coding headaches for $15 a month

If you’ve been looking to get that web project off the ground but despise the idea of coding it, Adobe’s recently announced web design tool has just landed. Muse, the program that allows you to design websites without having to get your hands dirty with HTML5 is now available. The kit behaves more like a layout program (like InDesign) instead of a web publishing / programming tool, allowing those who are more design-minded to feel right at home. As you might expect, the software is available with an annual $49.99 per month Creative Cloud subscription alongside CS6 heavyweights like Photoshop and Illustrator. If Muse is all you’re after, you can snag it alone for a $24.99 month-to-month fee or $14.99 for a twelve-month commitment. Need to see it in action before you open your wallet? No worries. Hit the coverage link below for a look at what the application can do.

Google Wallet supports prepaid cards once again, afflicted users get $5 in compensation

Source: http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/21/google-wallet-prepaid-cards-support-$5/

Google Wallet’s prepaid experiment hasn’t been the smoothest of endeavors, but the company wants to make up for all the headaches — with cash. A few weeks ago, Google disabled a feature that allowed users to add a Google Prepaid Card to their wallets after either removing it, or resetting their apps. The move came in response to mounting security concerns, but those issues have been allayed with the latest version of Google Wallet, meaning that users can now re-add their prepaid cards and hoover up all the money that was previously on them. To make up for the “inconvenience,” Google has added an extra $5 to every prepaid card, and sent an email out to all its customers to let them know about it. So if you count yourself among the legions of inconvenienced, be sure to add your card and spend that $5 on something sublime.
